Food cravings and happy cats...

So...I think I went overboard on the Halloween candy, but I am very excited about Trunk or Treat and handing out candy on Halloween! I felt like we needed to have good candy for this first year at least. We'll see how much is left by halloween!

Henry is making dinner tonight. I made the appetizer (see below). He is making spaghetti squash with tomato, onion, garlic, fresh basil, feta cheese and olive oil. Yum!

And I have to give a shout out to our good friend Mizael who is a chef at a restaurant in Austin.  They serve these almond stuffed dates wrapped in prosciutto with their cheese tray and I LOVE them. Sometimes I crave them...like today. So I called Mizael and he gave me the recipe. These are delicious...not as good as the ones at Mizael's restaurant, but they will at least tide me over until I go back to Austin.

And...the cats have not moved all day. They love their new spot.

Sorry for the double post today...it is a rainy day so I've had more time!
Peace, Emily

Trying something new...Video!

It is rainy today, so Henry and I have spent a lot of time indoors... cleaning and organizing. We also built something for the cats. I hope the video works! Peace, Emily

PS- Sorry about the high pitch voice. I hate listening to myself on camera. Maybe next time we will go without the narration!

The New Additions...

We got our couch and chair today. We think it looks great...what do you think?

Not too much news to report. We hope you are all well. This Sunday will be my first Sunday wearing a robe, so that is exciting. Henry is also joining the church this Sunday. We were hoping to go hiking tomorrow but it is supposed to be rainy. Peace, Em

Rev. Owen

Well...no pictures yet, but ordination went really well and I am officially Reverend Emily Richardson Owen. It was a long journey to get to the beginning of what I hope will be another long journey... (hopefully without as many written exams!) Pictures coming soon...Peace!

A Fun(gi) Hike...

Henry and I went on a beautiful hike today at Lake Norman State Park which is about 45 miles north of Charlotte. It was a gorgeous day and the leaves are starting to change, so it was also really pretty.

Lake Norman is huge and we are hoping to go back and do some more exploring. Here you can sort of see some of the leaves beginning to change...

And a bouquet of leaves to show you all of the colors. I can't wait to see what it looks like when they change even more. I know it will be beautiful!

We are still amazed by the size of the trees and therefore also the size of some of the leaves. This one was bigger than my face!

Henry took some time out to play Tarzan.
One thing that was especially interesting was all of the mushrooms and fungi. We have no idea what any of these are, but they are pretty interesting looking creatures...we named them all.
We named this one French Fry Mushroom...
Flat top...
Water tower...
I forgot what these were. Pretty cool looking though!
We ended the day in Davidson, North Carolina....exploring the town and having dinner with some friends. Davidson is a beautiful place as well...it was a great day! I hope you all had a great day, too! Peace, Emily

New Haircut and First Harvest!

I went to get a haircut today which is always scary in a new place, but I loved the girl who cut it and I love the haircut! What do you think?

For dinner, Henry and I had baked sweet potatoes and we made salad from the lettuce and spinach from our garden. It was pretty exciting and tasted great!

And Henry...showing off some spinach ears.

We are headed to Texas on Thursday for ordination and we are really excited to see everyone. I hope you are all doing well. Peace, Em
